Choi Hung is one of the oldest public housing estates in Hong Kong, located in theWong Tai Sin District of Kowloon. The estate was built by the former Hong Kong Housing Authority (屋宇建設委員會) and is now managed by the current Hong Kong Housing Authority (香港房屋委員會). It received a Silver Medal at the 1965 Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards.

The 7th stop of “Walk around Hong Kong” is Choi Hung! Today we are going to visit a 46-year-old restaurant named Kam Wah Cha Chaan Teng. Located in Ping Shek Estate, Kam Wah Cha Chaan Teng still keeps the same old decoration as in the 70s. The cake display fridge is also rarely seen nowadays. There are cakes of all kinds in the glass display fridge: triangle cake, walnut cake, cake roll, not to mention the freshly-baked egg tart! It is a great pleasure to have these cakes with a cup of thick and smooth milk tea. Other than the cake display fridge, the two hand-written banners and the mosaic tiles also tell the history of this Cha Chaan Teng.
It is more and more difficult to find shops that have unique features in Hong Kong as many of them chain stores ran by corporations. In order to avoid these small and unique shops from shutting down, you are encouraged to support them by visiting them more frequently. You can never feel the close interaction between shop-owners and customers in any chain stores.
